A Best Seller For Good Reason!

Horizon EX-59 Elliptical Trainer Review

The Horizon EX-59 elliptical trainer is one of Horizon Fitness’s best sellers and there are a couple of reasons why. First, it sells at a value price. There are cheaper ellipticals, but if you pay much less you are getting a substandard machine. Second, for the money you are getting a well engineered cross-trainer, designed to give you a rewarding workout.

Although it is important to realize that at this price range you are not getting commercial grade quality, and there are limitations to the type of user(s) that this machine can accommodate.

Horizon Fitness Ellipticals come from the third largest producer in the world called Johnson Fitness.  It is the same company that produces top brands like Vision Fitness and Matrix Fitness.

Horizon Fitness EX-59 Elliptical Features

Economical Price — $600-$700+ is not a whole lot of money of a decent exercise machine. Horizon generally offers good value for budget ellipticals.

SixStar Certification — The SixStar Certification is a set of six criteria that goes into the design of all Horizon elliptical trainers.  They are primarily ergonomic features that contribute to a comfortable and rewarding crosstraining workout.  For example, they minimize the distance between the pedals to reduce stress to your hips and back.  And because this is a front drive machine, it is relatively easy to mount and dismount.

30 – Minute Simple Assembly — We like how quickly this machine can be set up.  We’ve spent hours and hours dealing with equipment set up, and this quick 30 minute assembly is a great feature!

145 Lbs. Unit Weight — For the price this is a reasonable weight.  One of the major problems with cheap elliptical trainer is their light weight.  The overall weight of the machine plays a major role in the stability. Based on the EX-59 weight we would put the user weight limit at around 180 lbs. Anything more and you have to worry about stability.

Horizon EX-59 Elliptical ConsoleConsole — You get three LED readouts that allow you to track multiple stats. You also get speakers and a fan. The fan offers minimal relief, and quality of the speakers is what you would expect at this price range.

18” Elliptical Stride — The 18″ stride length is a good fit for medium height individuals. In fact, in one of the customer reviews on Amazon they suggested that the EX-59 was best suited for someone 5’6” and under. Although another customer that was 6’1” called the EX-59 an “Excellent Economy Elliptical”.  So obviously they did not have an issue with the short stride.  It depends a bit on the person.  Team member Fred Waters is 5’8″ and prefers a 20″ stride.

14.3 Lbs Flywheel — The flywheel is not particularly heavy.  The heavier the flywheel the more natural and smooth the elliptical motion.  However, at this price it about average and the feedback from customers was that it provided a natural motion.

Warranty – 1-year labor and parts, which is average.

Customer Reviews

You’ve heard my pros and cons, but what do customers have to say about the Horizon Fitness EX-59 Elliptical Trainer? Overwhelming the EX-59 received positive reviews on Amazon. Last I looked it rated 4.5 stars out of 5, which is impressive at this price range. Most customers were impressed with the quality and found it easy to assemble. Not to mention, Horizon has one of (if not the best) customer service records in the industry.

Consumer Magazine Review

The Horizon EX-59 elliptical trainer got a strong endorsement from a popular consumer magazine. They gave it a “Very Good” rating for ergonomics, exercise range, ease of use and construction.

My recommendation is if you can afford it, spend more money and get a heavier duty crosstrainer. If your budget is around $700 the Horizon Fitness EX-59 is one of your best choices.

Horizon Fitness 7.0AE Elliptical Features

Ergonomic Design & Engineering – Horizon conducted research on elliptical trainer users to better understand what mechanical features they found most appealing.  From that research they came up with their “SixStar Frame”, which is comprised of six design features that create a very natural and comfortable workout.   We can’t emphasize enough the importance of proper ergonomic features in reducing aches and pains from exercise.  The SixStar features are…

  1. Smooth Elliptical Stride – The 7.0 AE uses a combination large drive pulley ratio and a heavy 23 lb. flywheel to create a smooth and efficient elliptical motion.
  2. Narrow Pedal Distance – One of the benefits of a front drive elliptical trainer is that you can place the pedals very close to each other, this reduces stress to your hips. Wide pedal separation can be particularly stressful to women.  The pedals on the 7.0 AE are about as close as you can get.
  3. Optimal Handlebar Spacing – Handlebars are at a 45 degree and are within easy reach. They are positioned where your hands would naturally be on your side.
  4. Straight Body Posture – Many elliptical trainers tend to force you to lean forward because of the positioning of your body over the mechanism. On the Horizon 7.0 AE your body is in an upright posture, resulting in more comfort and reducing the feeling of exhaustion.
  5. Natural Elliptical Stride – Rather than an oval, bouncy stride, you get a flat elliptical pattern that mimics running or walking on air.  This is also less stressful on your joints and lower back.
  6. Low Pedal Height – The pedals are easy to mount and dismount because of their low 10” height.  Many find mounting a rear drive elliptical to be awkward and difficult.

23 lb. Flywheel – While we already mentioned this as part of the “SixStar Frame’, this is a substantially heavier flywheel than other treadmills in this price range. This places the 7.0 AE a step above its competitors for smooth, steady use.

20” Stride Length – A 20” stride length is something that we expect to see in ellipticals over the $1000 mark, so it’s a nice surprise to find this feature on the 7.0 AE. This stride length makes the 7.0 AE comfortable for most users, regardless of height.

20 incline levels – Another great upgrade on the 7.0 AE is the incline feature. This is something that we don’t always see on other Horizon ellipticals. The incline feature allows users of all ability levels to get a wider variety of great workouts. This also allows you to focus on various muscle groups to tone and strengthen specific areas.

20 levels of magnetic resistance – This feature is a step-up from the Horizon entry-level model.  The resistance feature is another way to ensure that your workouts are varied and allows you to work a greater range of muscle groups.

194 lb. Unit Weight – Weighing in at 194 lbs. the 7.0 AE isn’t messing around, weighing more than some of the more expensive premium models. This means that not only are you guaranteed a wobble-free workout, the 7.0 AE can accommodate users up to 325 lbs.

7” LCD Touchscreen – This may not boast the 10” screens that we are seeing on a lot of newer models, but it’s still a definite step up from the LED displays on many models in this price range.

Advanced Bluetooth – This technology allows to you connect to multiple devices and stream media to the integrated speakers on the 7.0 AE. Plus, the free no-subscription app lets you push workout data to your favorite fitness apps and control your workout from your device. You can also be sure that you’ll never lose your tunes or entertainment during your workout with the fast-charge USB port.

6 Workout Programs – No matter what you are looking for from your workout, the 7.0 AE has a program suited to you.

Warranty – Lifetime frame & brakes, 3 year parts, 1 year generator & labor.

Our Review – Horizon 7.0 AE Elliptical Review

The 7.0 AE maintains the high levels of quality, ease of use and performance that we have come to expect from Horizon products. Looking at the specs and features on the 7.0 AE one would very much expect to find a much higher price tag. In fact, the 7.0 AE offers many of the features that we see on the Evolve series machines, but the 7.0 AE is going to cost several hundred dollars less.  Horizon has really stepped up to the plate with the 7.0 AE in terms of performance and features.

The incline is an awesome addition that we don’t often see on Horizon models. This allows you to better tailor your sessions and work a larger range of muscle groups. The 23 lb. flywheel ensures that you get smooth use every time you step onto your machine. In addition, the heavy weight of that machine itself means that you will always feel solid and steady on your machine.

The 7.0 AE is also a great option for larger users, as it can accommodate a weight of up to 325 lbs. Tall users need not fear either, the 20” stride length means the 7.0 AE is comfortable for you too.

The technology features on the 7.0 AE may not be the most extensive on the market, but the 7” LCD touchscreen is nothing to shake a stick at. The Advanced Bluetooth allows the 7.0 AE to sync with multiple devices on the speakers and the integrated tablet rack puts your entertainment right where you want it. All in all, the Horizon 7.0 AE offers durability, performance and an impressive array of features at a price you can’t beat.

A Great Overall Value

Horizon Fitness EX69 Elliptical Trainer ReviewProbably the most important feature on the Horizon Fitness EX69 is its overall value. For around $700, which is not a lot for a cross trainer, you are getting a fairly durable machine designed around the needs of the user. These needs are part of what Horizon calls their SixStar Certification. It is a list of design criteria that include…

Features on the Horizon Fitness EX69

Close Pedal Distance — I currently have an elliptical trainer where the pedals are not all that close together. For my height it is not a problem, but my shorter wife finds using the machine discomforting. Particularly for woman, having an elliptical with pedals far apart can cause stress on hips and their back. The Horizon EX69 has the pedals almost touching each other.

The Horizon EX69 no longer sold.  Instead check out the Horizon EX-59.

Optimal Handlebar Placement — The handlebars are positioned within ideal reach and distance for both small and large-framed users. You don’t find yourself leaning forward to utilize the upper body workout. The design of both the lower body mechanics and the handlebars allow your body to exercise in an upright position. Something you don’t always find in a front drive elliptical trainer.

Body Centered – Many elliptical trainer designs result in the user having to lean forward. This slightly strains your joints leads to additional exertion. The EX69 keeps you centered and upright.

10″ Step Up — There are individuals that find mounting an elliptical trainer difficult because of the high clearance. The Horizon Fitness EX69 is designed with a low 10″ step up to reach the pedals.

Horizon Fitness EX69 Console20″ Elliptical Stride — Many ellipticals in this price range have an 18″ stride. Worse, many have very bouncy oval strides. The EX69 has a 20″ stride length is that very elliptical in motion and feels natural. This comfortable motion is further enhanced by the design of the large drive pulley system and the 17.6 lb flywheel.

Other features worth noting …

  • Built-in Speakers with MP3 Input
  • Built-in Fan
  • Four Window LED Display – Allowing simultaneous readouts on your progress.
  • Goal Tracking Feature – You can record and review your progress on the console.
  • Lifetime frame, 2-year parts and 1-year labor warranty.

Our Review — Horizon Fitness EX69 Elliptical Trainer

I tried out all the Horizon ellipticals when I was at their corporate headquarters. Horizon has made some serious improvements in their crosstrainers in the last few years. Previously their machines were not all that durable. Their new generation of elliptical trainers, built around the SixStar Certification, are a vast improvement.

In fact, the predecessor of the Horizon EX69, the Horizon EX68, received a “Best Buy” rating from a prestigious consumer magazine. They gave it an “Excellent” rating for construction and ergonomics. And considering this is only a $800 cardio machine, that is impressive.

It should be noted that the Horizon EX69 falls in the budget category. It is ideal for moderate usage. However, it is not commercial grade and I would have reservations recommending this crosstrainer for someone who weighs 300 lbs., which is their recommended weight limit. That said, the EX69 is one of the better values at $800.

The Most Ergonomic Elliptical Trainers on the Market

Nowadays, most of us try to get into a healthy lifestyle by following a proper eating and exercise routine. So naturally, purchasing fitness equipment has become one of the necessities in almost every household to keep people’s health on the right track.

However, there are very few fitness machine manufacturers that you can rely on for their product quality. Horizon Fitness Ellipticals are among the best picks in terms of quality. We went to visit Horizon Fitness’ North American headquarters recently, which is operated and managed by Johnson Health. Vision Fitness and Matrix Fitness are both owned by the same parent company.

Horizon Elliptical

The amenities present in the Horizon head office were remarkable. The office has a large gym where employees can test out the machines they design and market. Who does not know the importance of product testing before it makes its way to the market? Horizons fitness machine manufacturer has set up this gym to try out their products’ efficiency before they sell them on the market. Everyone seems to like trying out the Horizon Fitness ellipticals.

Horizon Fitness adopted a fresh approach to creating the latest iteration of Horizon ellipticals. This involves questioning and communicating with their existing users and potential customers to learn about their top objectives when shopping for an elliptical.

This revolutionary approach has served the company in so many ways to understand the business and fitness equipment markets so well. They built the basis of their Horizon ellipticals with the SIX STAR Certification as a result of these meetings. It was undoubtedly a ground-breaking feature for their product.

Horizon Fitness ellipticals have a number of biomechanical elements that make them seem natural and easy to use.

What Sets Horizon Fitness Apart?

They Manufacture Their Own Components

When it comes to the manufacturing of any equipment, the making of parts of the machine and their sturdiness become crucial to determining the product’s durability. There are very few companies that have the capacity to manufacture the equipment components on their own. They purchase most of the equipment components from third-party companies. So, it becomes tricky to pursue the warranty plan if any of those imported components are not working.

Concerning fitness equipment manufacturers, the same issue prevails here as well. However, Horizon Fitness builds its ellipticals with all its self-produced equipment parts rather than purchasing them from other parties. This setup is known as vertical integration, and it is super beneficial for the product owner in the event of any machine malfunctioning. Added to that, vertical integration helps the machine retain its sturdiness better and also requires less maintenance.

Excellent Customer Service

During our last visit, we were able to observe the call center. They have equipment set up for customer service employees to look at conceptual frameworks while on the phone with consumers. We were glad to discover a well-stocked call center with several competent agents ready to receive income calls, as customer service is an area where many businesses suffer.

To deal with clients, any organization needs well-versed staff and seasoned employees. Customer service is the term for this system. Without customer assistance, no corporation can be considered a viable entity. Customers are so much like God to corporations. It is critical to provide them with decent and professional service as needed when running a firm. Horizon Fitness has scaled up its business by incorporating decent customer service that works day and night to provide its customers with the best solutions.

Strong Company Culture

Good communication within the office zone is considered to be formed in a positive organizational culture. When an atmosphere of good communication prevails, employees can develop ways of understanding with others, including the board of directors. They can freely express their new ideas and creative thinking. This open company culture aids in the development of trust among staff and customers.

This trustworthiness, as well as the plethora of unique ideas provided by various personnel, aids the organization in determining the best road to ascend. A poorly structured organizational culture, on the other hand, fails to build an effective communion culture. There is a lack of originality and inventiveness in ideas when there is no unrestricted interaction amongst employees.

Keeping these crucial factors in mind, the management of Horizon Fitness has developed a strong and positive company culture within the office and business. It is quite an undeniable fact that when a company chooses to care for its employees on purpose to help the company grow, it is definitely going to care for its customers even more.

The company’s atmosphere that fosters the health and well-being of its employees impressed us. We can provide two examples to help you better understand. The firm has a staff fitness center and organizes company-wide yoga and fitness sessions in the front yard.

SIXSTAR Certification

1. Ideal Pedal Placement

Exercising with the help of equipment delivers the maximum result to help you pursue your fitness goals. However, faulty or not-so-ergonomic equipment makes your exercise regimen a bit bizarre by causing bodily injury and pain. So, it becomes tricky to stick to your fitness goal for a long time with an injured physical state.

In the case of poorly built ellipticals, you can experience hip and back pressure that is not at all healthy. It can lead to hip and back injuries. It generally happens when the padel placement of the ellipticals is poorly done. Horizon ellipticals are well-designed and optimally engineered with an optimal pedal placement initiative. To relieve stress and tension on the hips and back, the pedals are arranged with no space between them. This attribute makes the machine ideal for women to use for exercising due to its unique physique.

Team member Rachael taking a closer look at Horizon Fitness treadmills.

2. Optimal Handlebar Spacing

Ergonomic design planning is important for any kind of fitness machine. This is even more crucial for ellipticals, as the whole body of a user gets in motion while exercising. So, every component of this fitness machine requires special attention to ensure that ergonomic demands are met properly.

If the handlebar spacing is not correct, a user may experience pain after a vigorous session of exercise. The handlebar spacing needs to be optimal to suit both short and tall people. If a tall person gets to exercise with minimal handlebar spacing, it will exert pressure on his or her hands and shoulders, which will lead to muscle soreness.

On the other hand, if a short user has to deal with a wide handlebar space, he or she will not even get to use the handlebars. So, the result of the exercise will not be fruitful. Keeping these crucial factors in mind, Horizon Fitness has come up with an optimal handlebar spacing idea to provide optimal grips within reach and distance to the users.

3. Straight-up Body Posture

When we are exercising on an elliptical, we tend to lean forward, and that keeps us from using the handlebars properly. This also aids in post-workout back pain in users. Once the pain starts to bother you, you start to skip the exercise regimen daily, and your fitness goal plan does not succeed. So, using properly planned and ergonomically designed fitness equipment is as important as your exercise routine.

The ergonomic design on Horizon ellipticals improves comfort by keeping your body upright. We have discovered that when we use a front-drive elliptical, we invariably bend forward to reach the handlebars. That is why we frequently skip the bars and instead imitate running.

4. Long, Natural Elliptical Stride

Optimal stride length is critical for ensuring not only progress is in your fitness journey, but also maximum physical safety. The only factor that can accurately determine an individual’s ideal stride length is his or her height.

Horizon ellipticals have long and natural strides. They help to minimize user fatigue by mimicking a natural and organic movement motion.

5. Low Pedal Placement

Pedals placed low to the ground are easier to step on and off.

6. Smoother Momentum

The large drive pulley ratio creates a smoother and more efficient motion.

Horizon Fitness Ellipticals

The new generation of SIXSTAR Certification Horizon ellipticals are a vast improvement over their previous generation of crosstrainers. The new elliptical machines appear more stable, durable and provide a more natural elliptical stride.

Horizon EX-59

Horizon Ex-59

Our team has its own opinion stating the pros and cons of using the Horizon Fitness EX-59 Elliptical Trainer. However, it is also important to know about customers’ reviews of the same product. Customer feedback is even more vital to know because they use the products for several days and then review them. This helps us to understand the product’s potential from a practical perspective.

The EX-59 garnered overwhelmingly good reviews on Amazon.

“As if you were running on air.”

Consumer Magazine Feedback

In addition, a well-known consumer journal gave the Horizon EX-59 elliptical trainer high marks. For ergonomics, usability, workout range, the convenience of use, and craftsmanship, they gave it a “Very Good” assessment.

The Horizon Fitness EX-59 is one of your finest options if your budget is about $700.

Horizon 7.0 AE

The 7.0 AE delivers the same high standards of performance and quality, the convenience of use, and the low-maintenance that we have grown to expect from the manufacturer, Horizon. Looking at the specifications and functionalities of the 7.0 AE, one would predict a significantly higher price. The 7.0 AE elliptical boasts features like:

  • A 23-pound flywheel
  • 20-inch stride
  • 20 levels of the slope
  • 7-inch LCD touchpad
  • Bluetooth
  • 325 lb. weight limit

Sole E20 Elliptical ReviewGREAT DEAL! For a limited time, Sole is offering a FREE 90 day trial membership to their interactive fitness technology Studio with the purchase of any Sole elliptical.

You may have heard of the brand Sole Fitness. Sole has been around for a long time, and their company has certainly earned their stripes over the years in the fitness industry. While other top name brands such as NordicTrack or ProForm are known for their flashy machines, Sole has established a reputation for durability and consistency in their fitness equipment products.

At our last visit to the Sole corporate headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, we discussed the mission behind their machines. The owners at Sole told our Fitness Equipment Source team that the goal at Sole is to provide consumers with the highest quality fitness equipment. Their company chooses to spend money on the components and engineering of their products, rather than the bells and whistles you may see on other machines on the market.

Sole ellipticals are appealing to a wide array of budgets. Their machines have always ranged from the $999-$2,500 range. With Sole’s newest elliptical launch, they’ve expanded the affordability of their products even more. The Affordable Under-Desk Elliptical

The SF-E3872 from Sunny Health and Fitness is their under-desk elliptical. Priced at less than $150, this machine seems pretty attractive to consumers. Most users who work at desk jobs will find this under-desk elliptical particularly attractive in hopes to incorporate some leg movement while they are sitting all day.

Although you may not have heard of Sunny Health and Fitness, they are really popular on Amazon. Most of their machines have really good user reviews. This elliptical for example has 4.5/5 stars with over 2,000 consumer reviews.

Sunny Health and Fitness is a much smaller brand in the industry, they have only about 100 employees worldwide. Their main headquarter location is in Los Angeles, CA. Sunny Health has a second headquarter location in Xiamen, China.

While Sunny Health and Fitness certainly doesn’t have the name recognition as other brands such as NordicTrack or Horizon, having such popularity with consumers on their Amazon store is promising for their equipment.

The SF-E3872 under-desk elliptical is definitely a unique option that we don’t see often on the market, and there is a reason why. There are some better options out there for the goals of most consumers.

SF-E3872 Amazon Sale!
The Sunny Health and Fitness SF-E3872 is currently priced on Amazon for $129.99 with FREE shipping for Prime members. For a total body workout, you may want to consider the Horizon EX-59 Elliptical instead.

SF-E3872 Features

SF-E3872

  • Digital Monitor – There is nothing spectacular here, just a display monitor, but it does give you basic stats like time, speed, calories, and distance.
  • 8 Level Adjustable Tension Knob – The SF-E3872 is completely powered by you. However, there is a tension knob located on the machine that has up to 8 levels of resistance to make it more challenging for you.
  • Compact Size – The dimensions of this machine are 24 x 19 x 11 inches; it weighs 24.2 lbs. It’s designed to fit under desks and chairs.

Why We Suggest the Horizon EX-59 Instead

An under-desk elliptical seems like a great idea in theory. Most people think that it’s a great way to “kill two birds with one stone” so to speak – get your exercise in while you are working. However, the movement alone of simply moving your legs while at a desk or chair is actually not very effective at all.

ex59

Horizon EX-59

Of course, there are always benefits to moving your body. In comparison, the benefits to only working your lower body, rather than the full body workout that a standard elliptical will give you are minimal. If you are looking to get toned, burn calories, and get your heart pumping, this is probably not the option for you.

If you are looking to add some really effective exercise into your today, we suggest another budget elliptical instead – the Horizon EX-59. The EX-59 from Horizon is priced at $649, and they offer monthly financing options.

A Budget Machine with Great Reviews

The SF-E905 from Sunny Health and Fitness is considered a budget elliptical. This machine usually is priced at under $200, making it one of the most affordable ellipticals on the market today.

Sunny Health and Fitness is a smaller brand that is not well-known by most people. Their company has only about 100 employees worldwide. Sunny’s main headquarter location is in Los Angeles, CA. Sunny Health has a second headquarter location in Xiamen, China.

While Sunny Health and Fitness certainly doesn’t have the name recognition as other brands such as NordicTrack or Horizon, there are some good reviews on their fitness equipment. Sunny Health and Fitness has a large presence on Amazon. The SF-E905 elliptical has a 4/5 star rating with over 4,500 reviews.

The SF-E905 does seem to be popular among some consumers, but we do have some concerns with this machine that we want to make readers aware of before making their purchase.

SF-E905 Amazon Sale!
The Sunny Health and Fitness SF-E905 is currently priced on Amazon for $179.00 with FREE shipping for Prime members. Although this is a really attractive price point, we suggest checking out the Horizon EX-59 Elliptical.

SF-E905 Features

  • SF-E905

Digital Monitor – Nothing fancy, just a display monitor, but it does give you information like your time, speed, distance, calories, and pulse.

  • 8 Level Adjustable Resistance – The SF-E905 is completely user manual, but you can adjust the resistance up to 8 levels. However, it should be noted that you do have to step off the machine when you want to change the resistance level which some users could find inconvenient.
  • Compact Design – The SF-E905 is ideal for those who are limited on space. The Assembled dimensions are 36 L x 18 W x 15 H.

Our Concerns with the SF-E905

  • Product Weight – The SF-E905 Elliptical Trainer has a product weight of 61 lbs. Some users may see a lightweight machine as a positive feature, but at weight this light, safety and stability become major concerns. If you weigh over 120 lbs., you are over twice the weight of this machine. In comparison, the Horizon EX-59 weighs 145 lbs.
  • 11 Inch Stride Length – Typically we suggest a minimum of an 18” stride length. Most users of average height will find an 11” stride length confining and uncomfortable.
  • Warranty – There is a 3-year structural frame warranty, and 180 days for other parts and components. This is not a great warranty.

Why We Don’t Suggest this Elliptical

Horizon EX-59

The SF-E905 elliptical from Sunny Health and Fitness comes with some decent features for such an affordable price. Although it’s compact, shows fitness stats, and has resistance adjustment options, we feel the safety concerns outweigh the positives of this machine.

We suggest checking out the Horizon EX-59 elliptical instead. The EX-59 is sold at $649, with monthly financing available. We are very confident in Horizon as a brand and have seen countless positive consumer reviews over the years for the EX-59. The EX-59 from Horizon is a safer and more durable choice for an elliptical trainer.

An Elliptical Trainer Under $100! Too Good to Be True?

Yes, you read that title correctly. We were a little shocked, too! The SF-E902 from Sunny Health and Fitness is one of the only elliptical trainers on the market that we are aware of priced at UNDER $100.

Sunny Health and Fitness is a smaller brand in the fitness equipment industry, with only about 100 employees worldwide. Their main headquarters location is in Los Angeles, CA. Sunny Health has a second headquarters location in Xiamen, China.

Some people may view small brands as a disadvantage. While Sunny Health certainly doesn’t have the name recognition as other brands such as NordicTrack or Horizon, there are some advantages when choosing to purchase from a small brand.

Sunny Health and Fitness is vocal about their dedication to making their company atmosphere as much like ‘family’ as possible. Since they strive to create a close-knit workplace – their customer service is likely to be much more personal as well. (Which is a huge plus when purchasing fitness equipment!)

SF-E902 Features

  • Digital Monitor – Although it’s not the largest or the most fancy, this elliptical does come with a small monitor that shows time, count, total distance and calories.
  • Full Body Workout – The SF-E902 is completely user manual, and powered by you. This will ensure a great aerobic workout!
  • Foldable – It’s a great feature when you’re limited on space to have an elliptical that folds.

Why We’re Concerned With This Machine…

There is no denying that the SF-E902 from Sunny Health comes at one of the most appealing price points on the market. Let’s face it, if you can spend under $100 on an elliptical trainer, who wouldn’t want to?! However, we have some really serious concerns with this elliptical trainer.

  • SF-E902

Product Weight – The SF-E902 Elliptical Trainer only weighs 31 lbs. While a lightweight product can be a great feature, not this lightweight. Sunny Health makes the claim that the SF-E902 can hold up to 220 lbs. of user weight. Considering this is over six times the weight of the elliptical, we do not feel this is a safe weight limit. With a product weighing only 31 lbs., there are major concerns for both stability and safety during your workout.

  • Unsure of Stride Length – On their website, Sunny states that the stride length for this machine is 30″. However, on their description on Amazon, they state the stride length for this machine is 45″. We are not confident in stating a matter-of-fact stride length for the SF-E902 with conflicting descriptions. Regardless, some users will find a fixed stride length uncomfortable. We find that adjustable stride lengths are usually the preference of most users, so they can adjust it to what’s most comfortable for them.
  • Warranty – There is a 1-year structural frame warranty, and 180 days for “other parts and components”. This is an awful warranty, and a warranty usually reflects the quality and durability of a product.

Horizon EX-59

This elliptical is sold at a price that nearly all of us are drawn to. It seems like a great deal, especially for someone who is looking for a basic treadmill to get some movement in at home. However, as we stated, we have some safety concerns with this elliptical unfortunately.

We suggest checking out the Horizon EX-59 elliptical instead. The EX-59 is sold at $649, with financing available. We feel the Horizon EX-59 is a safer and more durable choice for an elliptical trainer.
